Cairo Metro Line 4 Tunnelling to Will Start from Fustat in Mid April
Two tunnel-boring machines are being assembled, with the first drive set from Fustat toward King El-Saleh and El-Messaha stations.
Tunnelling work on Cairo Metro Line 4 is set to begin in mid-April, with excavation starting from Fustat Station toward King El-Saleh Station and El-Messaha Station.
According to Ministry of Transport Egypt, two tunnel-boring machines are being assembled for the second section of Phase I.
A second machine is scheduled to begin drilling the parallel tunnel in mid-May along the same route, marking the start of full tunnelling operations in this segment. Phase I of the line extends 19 kilometres and includes 17 stations, with 16 underground and one at ground level.
The route runs from west of the Ring Road near 6th of October City, passing key points such as the Grand Egyptian Museum, Remaya Square and Al-Haram Street, before reaching Giza Station, where it will connect with Cairo Metro Line 2.
The line will also link with Cairo Metro Line 1 at King El-Saleh and terminate at Fustat. Construction is ongoing across Phase I, with four tunnel-boring machines already operating in the first section.
One has reached the Grand Egyptian Museum Station, another is advancing toward the Pyramids Station, while two others have arrived at Madkour and Talbiya stations. P
lanning is also underway for Phase II, which will extend 26.9 kilometres from Fustat to New Cairo with 21 stations. The extension is expected to connect with the future Line 6 at Sayeda Aisha and link to the East Nile Monorail at Aviation Station in Nasr City.
Further expansion phases under study include a western extension toward Hadayek Al-Ashgar and Al-Hosary Square, as well as an eastern extension toward the New Capital Airport, where it will connect with the light rail transit network.
