Construction Begins on New Sheikh Mansour Metro Station
The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding on the Line 1 corridor, especially at Ezbet El Nakhl Station.
The National Authority for Tunnels, under the Ministry of Transport, has begun implementation of a new metro station called Sheikh Mansour on Metro Line 1, located between Ezbet El Nakhl and El Marj stations. The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding on the Line 1 corridor, especially at Ezbet El Nakhl station, which frequently exceeds capacity during peak hours. The project was formally designated as serving the public interest by a Prime Ministerial decision issued on June 15th, 2025, enabling the authority to accelerate construction procedures. As part of its broader upgrade plan for Metro Line 1 — the backbone of Cairo’s network — the project also encompasses modernising signalling systems, communications networks and rolling stock, all designed to improve passenger flow, enhance safety and reduce delays. The new station is one component of a multi-phase development strategy that supports expansion of mass transit infrastructure, promotes public transport usage and addresses the city’s growing traffic demands.
