Construction to Begin On World's Largest Cube Skyscraper in Riyadh
A cube-shaped skyscraper in Riyadh will become the world's largest building. The Mukaab is part of New Murabba, a project to enhance the city and attract global attention.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to begin construction on a cube-shaped skyscraper known as the Mukaab, which will measure 400 metres on each side, making it the largest building in the world upon completion.
This project is part of the New Murabba initiative which intends to transform Riyadh into a significant cultural and entertainment hub.
Excavation for the Mukaab has already cleared over 10 million cubic metres of earth. The development will include various amenities such as entertainment venues, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and a 45,000-seat stadium.
One of the Mukaab’s most striking aspects is its innovative design, which includes the world’s first fully-enclosed skyscraper. Within this futuristic space, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a holographic dome, allowing them to experience virtual global destinations, all without leaving the building. This blend of technology and architecture exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s intent to blend tradition with cutting-edge innovation, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable urban design and immersive experiences.
While the Mukaab will undoubtedly be a marvel of engineering and creativity, its realization faces significant challenges. Saudi Arabia’s growing construction sector has had to grapple with issues such as global supply chain disruptions, escalating material costs, and a shortage of skilled labor. These obstacles could potentially delay the project or increase costs, especially considering the complexity and scale of the design. Yet, despite these hurdles, the Mukaab’s expected completion in time for Expo 2030 remains a strategic priority as Saudi pushes towards its cultural and economic goals.
