Copayment Adjustments for Abu Dhabi Health Insurance Begin July 1st

The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi has announced new regulatory updates for the Basic Health Insurance Plan, set to take effect from July 1st, 2024. In response, the National Health Insurance Company - Daman will revise the health insurance policies for all residents in the emirate.

Key changes include a 20% copayment on diagnostic services, such as laboratory tests and radiology, with a maximum charge of AED 50 per visit. In-patient services and one-day procedures will now require a AED 200 copayment per service, capped at AED 500 annually. Additionally, plan holders will receive medication coverage up to AED 1,500 per year, with a 30% copayment fee. The annual premium for domestic helpers under 60 years of age, sponsored by UAE nationals, will be AED 750, while premiums for other categories will be adjusted based on age groups.

Beyond these changes, the main benefits of the Basic Health Insurance Plan remain unchanged. The plan continues to offer total insurance coverage of AED 250,000 per year, granting access to over 1,250 healthcare facilities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, as well as specialized services at Abu Dhabi's Centres of Excellence, including Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. Plan holders will still receive essential services such as physiotherapy, ambulance services and maternity care.
