Creative Quarter Launched in Sharjah to Boost Design Industries

A Creative Quarter has been launched in Sharjah, with the aim of becoming a hub for fashion, jewellery, product design and handicrafts. The initiative, backed by an Emiri Decree from Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, will focus on supporting professionals and businesses in the creative industries.

The Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), headquartered in University City, will operate with legal authority and financial and administrative independence. It is expected to facilitate collaboration between local and international organisations, as well as provide spaces for designers, artisans, and manufacturers to work and engage with the public. The project also looks to attract brands and promote contemporary practices across various creative fields.

According to the decree, the SCQ will oversee partnerships, events, and programs that aim to strengthen Sharjah’s position in the region’s design and cultural landscape. The quarter’s leadership structure includes a Head appointed by decree, supported by a Director responsible for day-to-day operations.

While fully owned by the Sharjah government, the SCQ has the flexibility to expand beyond its current location if directed by the emirate’s leadership. Additional details, including financial structures and governance, have been outlined in the decree to develop its creative sectors.
