Divorce Rates Amongst 25-to-30 Year Olds in Egypt at All-Time High

Navigating fiery online debates about El Ayma or who gets to pay on the first date is a casual Egyptian Twitter routine at this point, with marriage and relationships being a constant controversial topic dominating Egyptian discourse. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ latest report revealed Egyptians’ actual marriage - and divorce - habits in 2021.

Egyptian marriages occurring in rural areas were recorded at 59.1%, while urban areas saw rates of 40.9%.

Egypt’s total divorce rates increased by 14.7% in 2021 with a total of 245,777 cases. When it comes to potential suitors, the majority of Egyptians getting married are between ages 25 to 30. They’re also the group with the highest divorce rates.
