East Nile Monorail to New Capital Officially Inaugurated
The line connects several high-traffic areas, including Cairo Stadium, Al-Azhar University and major places of worship.
The East Nile monorail has been officially inaugurated alongside the Green River zone in the New Capital, marking a new transport link between Cairo and the capital’s emerging districts. The inauguration was attended by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The line connects several high-traffic areas, including Cairo Stadium, Al-Azhar University and major places of worship, while serving dense neighbourhoods such as Nasr City. It also provides access to hospitals including Dar Al Fouad and Al Gawy Specialist, in addition to major shopping centres and residential communities.
Designed to accommodate growing demand, the system operates 40 trains at speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, with each train composed of four carriages. The route is expected to support daily commuting flows into the New Capital, including the government district and business hubs.
