Egypt Launches AI Platform to Combat Fake News
Built by the Information and Decision Support Centre, the tool is on test to rapidly analyse disputed news and images.
Egypt’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) has launched an artificial intelligence–powered platform designed to verify the accuracy of news content and flag what officials describe as “false or misleading” reports. The system was presented during a cabinet meeting attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and senior media regulators. Developed to analyse published text and images in real time, the platform allows authorities to identify potential misinformation more quickly than traditional manual monitoring. The IDSC said the tool aims to support national efforts to maintain the integrity of public information and limit the spread of rumours that may affect state institutions, society, or the economy. The initiative builds on existing legislation targeting false news but introduces automation as a new layer of oversight at a time when disinformation increasingly circulates through social media and digital channels. The government has stated that the tool is intended to complement — not replace — public dialogue and legitimate critique, while enabling faster action against those who intentionally spread fabricated information.
