Egypt Ramps Up COVID-19 Vaccinations to 800,000 Per Day
Egypt aims to vaccinate 35 million Egyptians over the next three months.
Egypt has announced an ambitious ramping up of its COVID-19 inoculation campaign, aiming to vaccinate 35 million Egyptians over the next three months.
In order to reach the target, health authorities are hoping to vaccinate 800,000 Egyptians each day, demanding a significant intensification of the campaign.
A recent increase in vaccination numbers, however, indicates that the campaign is on the right path towards its target. On Thursday, August 12th, a record 100,224 people were vaccinated in one day, a record which was shattered just days later on Sunday, August 15th, when over 155,000 people received their jabs in a single day.
A reduction in early vaccine hesitancy and the delivery of new batches of the vaccine are credited as reasons for the record numbers.
Currently, the country has 580 vaccination centres, including 134 dedicated for travellers, providing the AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik V, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
