Egypt to Air TV Content in 23 Languages

Egypt’s National Media Authority has announced the launch of new television programming in 23 languages, including African, Asian, and European languages. The initiative aims to expand Egypt’s global media presence and forms part of a wider regional programming push.

According to Ahmed El-Muslimani, President of the National Media Authority, the first set of programming has already been completed in African languages, including Swahili, Amharic, and Fula. Additional languages currently in production and editing include English, French, Italian, Albanian, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Indonesian, Turkish, Persian, Pashto, Dari, Urdu, Uzbek, Somali, Hausa, and Afar.

The programming is organised regionally, with the African-language group presented under the title “Egypt–Africa.”

The first episode in the Swahili-language series will air next week on Egypt’s Channel One, featuring Arabic subtitles. Nile TV will broadcast the same episode, with subtitles available in English and French, to widen accessibility for international audiences.

The Swahili episode presents the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation in Cairo. It is hosted by Shafie Mbenda, a presenter from Egypt’s Foreign Broadcast Service.

El-Muslimani stated that this initiative aligns with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s vision to "globalise Egyptian thought".
