In only two weeks, the team will be heading to Greece to play their first games.
Two weeks ahead of the commencement of the FIBA Olympic qualifiers, which decide which national teams make it to the 2024 Summer Olympics, the Egyptian national team roster is finalised. Led by coach Henrik Rodl, the 16-player team will this year include the addition of 5-year NBA veteran Abdel Nader, who holds NBA career averages of 4.6 points and 1.9 rebounds over 202 games with the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Phoenix Suns.
The team also includes names such as Al Ahly’s Omar Oraby and Ehab Amin as well as Zamalek’s Mohab Yasser, Ahmed Yasser and Omar Hesham. Yusuf Shehat and Haytham Kamal will join the team from Al Ittihad Alexandria, and Anas Mahmoud from Al Ahly Tripoli in Libya. Omar El-Sheikh will also be joining the team from Switzerland’s Pully Lausanne Foxes. Last year’s team leader in the FIBA World Cup, Assem Marei, is not on the roster.
The FIBA basketball tournaments are set to be a series of tournaments to be contested by 24 national teams across Greece, Latvia, Puerto Rico and Spain. Over 5 days, from July 2nd to July 7th, the 24 teams compete and only the top teams qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics basketball tournament in Paris, France.
The Egyptian national team will join the first qualifiers against Greece and the Dominican Republic in Piraeus, Greece.
