King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah successfully performed the first full liver transplant using a robot in the Western region.
The transplant was performed for a 23-year-old man who suffered from chronic liver disease caused by congenital biliary atresia, with both the donor excision and patient transplant performed entirely by a robot without any direct human intervention. The operation enhanced the precision of the surgery, reduced the recovery period and lowered the likelihood of complications.
In the past year, King Faisal Specialist Hospital also made headlines by performing the world’s first full robotic heart transplant.
