Flying Taxi Service Will Take to the Skies of Dubai by 2026
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching an aerial taxi service made up of electrically-powered flying vehicles.
Ever wished you could just fly above a traffic jam? Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is actualising these fantasies by spearheading an aerial taxi service, which will soon take to the skies in 2026!
The flying taxis are electrically powered, a quieter and more environmentally friendly urban transportation compared to traditional helicopters and reduce fuel usage. After first trials, the Joby Aviation eVtol has been shown to carry up to four passengers and a pilot, offering a range of 161 kilometers and a maximum speed of 322 kilometers per hour. These taxis are expected to reduce traffic congestion (as you might expect), promote sustainable transportation, and boost tourism and innovation.
Implementation of these plans is already underway, with Dubai’s authorities planning vertiport locations in strategic places like Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai and Palm Jumeirah, creating a regulatory framework, and collaborating with industry leaders like leading eVTOL manufacturers Joby Aviation.
