Gayer-Anderson Museum Hosts Two Month-Long Exhibitions in October
One of the exhibitions is held in honour of World Maritime Day, while the other celebrates the decoding of the Rosetta Stone.
The Gayer-Anderson Museum in Cairo is hosting two temporary archaeological exhibitions throughout October.
The first exhibition, titled 'Maritime Navigation in the House of Al-Kretliya', is a tribute to World Maritime Day. It takes place in the Hall of Masterpieces of Al-Kretliya and features 11 artefacts, including a model of a wooden boat from Egypt’s Middle Kingdom period. Among the exhibited items are a variety of astronomical tools used for navigation, such as compasses, astrolabes, quarter-magnitudes, and half-magnitudes.
Simultaneously, the museum is hosting the 'Pharaonic Creations in the House of Al-Kretliya’ exhibit in the Blue Hall, commemorating the anniversary of the decoding of the Rosetta Stone. This exhibition showcases a collection of 12 rare artefacts including stone and wooden panels adorned with intricate engravings and inscriptions, canopic vessels and wooden boxes that have withstood the test of time..
