H.E. Reem Al Hashimy: UAE "Doing Everything" to Keep Residents Safe
Al Hashimy said the UAE would continue to advocate de-escalation but made clear it was prepared for further developments.
The United Arab Emirates is using what it described as one of the world’s most sophisticated missile defence networks to shield the country from ongoing Iranian attacks, a senior minister said on Sunday March 1st.
H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation, told CNN that authorities were taking all necessary steps to protect the population, stressing that the leadership was committed to maintaining security for nationals, expatriates and visitors.
“We have one of the best defence systems in the world and we are confident that we will be able to continue to support our infrastructure and protect the people who live here,” she explains.
She said UAE air defences intercepted more than 137 ballistic missiles and upwards of 200 drones on Saturday February 28th, deploying systems such as THAAD and Patriot to neutralise incoming threats. Although falling debris caused casualties and damage in parts of the country, she said the overall impact had been contained.
Al Hashimy said the UAE would continue to advocate de-escalation but made clear it was prepared for further developments. “We will be ready,” she said, adding that diplomatic channels remain open even as tensions persist.
