Join the 'Clean Up Day' in Sharm El Sheikh on Saturday October 22nd
The Ministry of Environment is calling on volunteers to join its clean-up day this Saturday, October 22nd in Sharm El Sheikh.
With all eyes on Egypt as it gears up to host the 27th edition of COP, the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the South Sinai governorate, the UNDP and the EU, is launching a governorate-wide campaign to encourage a communal clean-up day where climate enthusiasts and civil society can come together to raise awareness about climate change.
The ‘Single-Use Plastic Bag Free’ campaign aims to support a law that forbids the use of plastic bags in Sharm El Sheikh to lessen the risks posed by single-use plastics on the Red Sea’s biodiversity. The clean-up day will cover on-ground and underwater efforts. The on-land portion of the day will take place in the Ras Muhammad Protected Area, with the help of local youth organisations, schools, the conservation, and the hospitality sector. The underwater clean-up will be in cooperation with the Chamber of Diving and Water Sports, at the Wataniya and Travco Jetties, where volunteer divers will take the lead in raising awareness about Sharm El Sheikh’s main jetties.
Join the Sharm El Sheikh community in cleaning up the city and take part in reducing plastic waste and encouraging climate action this upcoming weekend, on Saturday, October 22nd.
