Judges Banned From Media Appearances & Filming During Hearings
New rules prohibit judges from engaging with the media or capturing footage during proceedings to ensure confidentiality.
The President of the Cairo Court of Appeal, Counselor Mohamed Nasr Sayed, issued a decree that bans judges from appearing in various forms of media, whether in their personal capacity or professional role. Additionally, the filming of court trials is strictly forbidden. The move extends to both private and public social media platforms.
Judges will also be held accountable for violations, with the possibility of disciplinary action under the Judiciary Act. The decision was made to uphold the importance of maintaining impartiality, and focusing on the legal proceedings without outside distractions or influence.
The prohibition follows extensive reviews of the Judicial Authority Law and decisions made by the Supreme Judicial Council.
