Disrupting Court Sessions Punishable by 24-Hour Jail or EGP 500 Fine
Under the new legislation, judges have the power to expel anyone who disrupts proceedings with no appeal.
The House of Representatives has approved Article 240 of the draft Criminal Procedures Law, granting court presidents full authority to manage courtroom sessions and maintain order.
Under the new legislation, judges have the power to expel anyone who disrupts proceedings. If an individual refuses to comply, the court may impose an immediate penalty of either 24 hours of imprisonment or a EGP 500 fine. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The law also applies to court employees, who may face disciplinary penalties if they violate courtroom order. However, the court retains the discretion to revoke its decision before the session concludes.
