Egypt's Weather Authority Advises Staying Indoors on March 25th
Severe weather including heavy rain and strong winds is forecast across Egypt on March 25th.
Thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall are forecast across much of Egypt on Wednesday March 25th, alongside strong winds, blowing dust and a noticeable drop in temperatures.
According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, the country is expected to experience rapid weather instability, with prolonged periods of heavy rain affecting multiple regions as colder air moves across the country. Citizens and residents are advised to avoid standing under trees and billboards.
Rainfall is expected across the northern coasts, Delta governorates, Canal cities and Greater Cairo, in addition to large parts of North Upper Egypt, North New Valley, the Gulf of Suez and Sinai.
In several areas, rainfall is forecast to be intense and sustained, raising the risk of water accumulation on roads and in tunnels, as well as localised flooding. Flash floods are also possible in parts of Upper Egypt, the Gulf of Suez and Sinai.
The weather system is expected to bring a marked drop in temperatures, with cold daytime conditions and lower night-time temperatures across many regions. Winds will be active across most parts of the country, with stronger conditions expected in Greater Cairo, New Valley, the Gulf of Suez, Sinai, Upper Egypt and the Red Sea mountain range.
The authority also warned of potential thunder, lightning and sudden downburst winds during storm activity. On Thursday March 26th, the system is expected to weaken, with continued cold and gusty winds and scattered rainfall of lower intensity across affected areas.
Higher rainfall on Thursday is expected to be concentrated along the northern Sinai coast.
