Military Service Settlement Fees Increased to USD 7,000
The new figure, which can also be paid in Euros, marks a 40% increase on the previous cost of the initiative.
The cost of settling military service status for Egyptians living abroad has been increased to 7000 in either US Dollars or Euros, marking a 40% increase on the previous figure of 5,000 in US Dollars or Euros. The initiative for conscription settlement, which was opened on May 1st, lasts for two months until July 1st, allowing those of military age to gain exemption from compulsory service if they are living abroad.
The process requires applicants to obtain a certificate from their local Egyptian embassy or consulate verifying their presence abroad. Applications will be approved upon receipt of payment to the account listed on the ‘tagneed’ portal website.
This initiative is significant for those living abroad, as unsettled conscription status prevents the renewal of one's passport. With this initiative, those who wish to remain abroad without returning to complete military service have a recourse to do so permanently, albeit at an increased cost.
