New Alternative to Tuktuks to Be Released in 2022
This alternative vehicle will be a small, four-wheeled car operating with an eco-friendly dual system engine that runs on petrol and natural gas.
Egyptians have a love/hate relationship with tuktuks. Some may argue they’re part of Egypt’s imitable charm, perfect for navigating narrow streets; others see them as a dangerous eyesore on more crowded roads. Now, the government is introducing a new alternative to the two-wheel vehicle that will have the same agility to maneuver the nooks and crannies of Cairo’s endless alleyways while leaving a light carbon footprint.
This alternative vehicle will be a small, four-wheeled car operating with an eco-friendly dual system engine that runs on petrol and natural gas, and will be launched by the end of 2022.
This comes as part of Egypt’s larger plan to integrate renewable energy into Egypt’s infrastructure, particularly transportation, with a focus on expanding the use of natural gas as a fuel for cars. The new vehicles have the European E-Mark stamp of approval and will be able to cover a distance of about 550 km without refilling using a mix of petroleum and natural gas.
The cars are produced as part of a project between the National Authority for Military Production and the GB Auto Ghabbour company.
