New App Tracks Congestion at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah

A new mobile application has been launched by the General Authority for Care of the Prophet’s Mosque, aiming to curb congestion at Islam’s second holiest site by showing users how busy each area of the mosque is before they arrive.

The app displays the status of prayer places in a colour-coded system: green for ‘available’, yellow for ‘crowded’, pink for ‘full’, and grey for ‘unavailable’. The app is available in Arabic, Urdu and English.

The introduction of the service comes at peak season for Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan, with many pilgrims heading to Madinah to offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque after performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
