New Initiatives to Boost Coding Skills in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
These initiatives aim to foster a robust understanding of coding and technology.
In celebration of the inaugural International Day of Coding, the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) has unveiled two significant initiatives to boost programming skills in selected Abu Dhabi and Dubai schools. These efforts are designed to enrich students' educational experiences and foster a robust understanding of coding and technology.
One standout initiative, ImagiCharm, introduces a wearable device aimed at promoting coding and creativity among young learners. ATRC has equipped 22 Abu Dhabi schools with these devices and has trained 40 teachers to implement this program. The goal is to engage approximately 1,000 students in learning Python during the 2024-25 academic year, with plans to potentially expand this reach to 3,000 students.
Additionally, ATRC is rolling out the Hour of Code program in 10 public and private schools in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This gamified coding activity utilizes the popular video game Minecraft to teach Python coding skills to over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 12. The program also includes training for more than 15 teachers in innovative teaching methodologies, ensuring that they are aligned with the latest global educational trends.
These initiatives aim to introduce students to STEM subjects through engaging and interactive methods, offering hands-on activities and advanced educational resources.
