Under Saudi Reef’s Rural Support Program Rainfed Crops Surge 1,100%
Saudi Reef reports 1,100% growth in rainfed crops, positioning rainfall-based farming as a rising pillar of Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia’s Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, Saudi Reef, says its rainfed crops segment has grown by more than 1,100%, making it one of the initiative’s fastest-rising areas. Rainfed crops are farms that depend primarily on natural rainfall, with little to no additional irrigation.
Program spokesperson Majed Al-Buraikan described rainfed agriculture as a core part of Saudi Reef’s progress, noting its ability to boost production efficiency, support food security, and sustain farming in water-scarce regions—goals that align with Vision 2030. He added that the program is designed to broaden Saudi Arabia’s agricultural base, improve smallholder incomes and employment opportunities, and safeguard environmental and natural resources across rural communities.
Alongside rainfed crops, Saudi Reef offers support across eight areas: honey, fruit, coffee, roses, livestock, artisanal fishing, rainfed crops, and value-added agricultural products.
