AlUla announces the launch of the first wildlife breeding centre in Sharaan National park, representing a step in returning the endangered Arabian Leopard to its ancestral home.
Indigenous to AlUla and critically endangered, the Arabian Leopard is among the rarest leopard breeds, with fewer than 120 adults living in the wild, with approximately 20 of them in Saudi Arabia. Over the past year, the Royal Commission for AlUla has bred seven Arabian leopard cubs in captivity.
The construction of the Arabian Leopard Rewilding centre is due to begin soon. In order to guarantee a successful reintroduction, the centre will house the leopards, while also breeding their key prey species.
