Riyadh has been ranked among the world’s top 100 innovation clusters in the 2026 Global Innovation Index, placing 92nd globally and becoming the only Gulf city included in the classification.

The index recorded 419 venture capital deals linked to innovation activity in Riyadh, alongside 162 international patent applications connected to the city.

King Saud University, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and Prince Sultan University were identified as major contributors to Riyadh’s research output.

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation and Aramco were also highlighted for their role in the city’s innovation ecosystem.
