Noor Riyadh Light Festival Shines Bright With Six New World Records

The Noor Riyadh 2023 festival, organised by the Royal Commission of Riyadh City, has once again made its mark in the record books, securing six new Guinness World Records during its third edition. This achievement adds to the festival's previous accolades, bringing the total number of world records earned over the course of three years to 14.

From November 30 to December 16, the largest festival of light illuminated the Kingdom's capital with awe-inspiring large-scale installations across five main hubs, captivating nearly three million visitors.

"Noor Riyadh 2023 has not only illuminated our city, but also our hearts and minds. As we close this chapter, we look forward to the ongoing exhibition and the continuous enrichment of Riyadh's art and culture landscape,” Khaled Al-Hazani, executive director of Riyadh Art, told SceneNowSaudi.

Among the notable world records set this year was the mesmerising light display titled ‘DIALOGUE’ by German interaction designer Christopher Bauder. This installation established two records, one for the most lights (560) in a light show on a single building, Al-Faisaliyah Tower, and another for the most lights used in a temporary light and sound show.

French artist Miguel Chevalier's ‘Magic Carpet, Origin of the World’ unveiled the largest interactive projection-mapped display, enchanting visitors with a carpet-like arrangement of multiplying cells that came to life under their footsteps. Meanwhile, Yinka Ilori's ‘Block Cubes’ transformed into the world's largest temporary skate park, offering a unique and surprising approach to light-based installations.

Studio Drift's ‘Desert Swarm’ took flight with the largest drone bird swarm, involving an impressive fleet of 3,000 drones. The festival also achieved a record for launching the most drones in a week.
