Prime Minister: No Electricity Price Rise in Egypt for Now
After a Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt will delay any adjustment in electricity prices, emphasising stability and citizens’ welfare.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that Egypt will not raise electricity prices “at this stage,” following a Cabinet meeting in the New Administrative Capital. He said the government is studying electricity pricing within a framework that balances both citizens’ welfare and market stability. Madbouly warned that a hike could impact inflation and noted that electricity subsidies are being offset through other government channels. He emphasised the government remains committed to maintaining service quality while keeping prices under control in line with the national economy’s needs. The last time electricity tariffs were raised in Egypt was in August 2024, affecting household users with prepaid meters by 14% to 40%, commercial users by 23.5% to 46%, and industrial users by 21.2% to 31%. The current decision comes amid ongoing plans to phase out subsidies gradually as part of broader economic reform.
