Egypt FM Begins Gulf Tour With Visit to Doha Over Regional Escalation

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Badr Abdelatty travelled to Doha on March 15th, 2026, at the start of a tour of Gulf states aimed at coordinating with Arab partners amid fast-moving regional developments, including the US-Israel war on Iran.

The visit includes high-level meetings in Qatar focused on the ongoing regional military escalation. Egyptian officials stated that the trip reflects Cairo’s position of solidarity with Arab states and its support for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and safeguard regional stability.

Alongside the Doha visit, Abdelatty held a phone call with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah to discuss the evolving situation. During the call, Egypt affirmed its solidarity with Kuwait and condemned attacks targeting the security and stability of Gulf countries.

The ministers also discussed the impact of the escalation on regional air traffic and logistics. Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s understanding of Kuwait’s precautionary measures, including the closure of its airspace, taken to ensure the safety of its territory and citizens.

He warned that continued escalation could have serious consequences if the situation develops into a wider regional conflict and emphasised the need for diplomatic solutions.

In a separate call, Abdelatty coordinated with Ayman Safadi regarding the ongoing escalation. Both sides reiterated their condemnation of attacks affecting the stability of Arab states and stressed the need for an immediate halt to the current war and escalating military operations.

The discussion also addressed the importance of strengthening joint Arab coordination mechanisms and developing a broader regional security framework following the conflict. The two ministers agreed to maintain close consultation between Cairo and Amman as regional developments continue to unfold.
