Producer Ahmed El Sobky Confirms ‘The Atheist’ Film Will Not Be Banned
El Sobky further confirmed that the controversial film has received approval from the censorship authorities.
The producer of the upcoming drama film ‘The Atheist’, Ahmed El Sobki, confirmed that the film will be released in cinemas soon, quelling rumours of the film’s banning.
He further confirmed that the film has received approval from the censorship authorities, and stated that no film is able to be produced before the authorities reviewing the film script and issuing an approval.
In defence of the film, El Sobky posited that the film is being criticised not because of its content but because of its controversial author Ibrahim Eissa, and that its criticisms are without merit since the film does not attack the religion of Islam.
The controversy around the film began after the film’s original release date of August 13th was pushed forward hours before it was to begin screening in cinemas. Written by Ibrahim Eissa, directed by Mohamed El-Adl and starring Ahmed Hatem in the title role, the film was originally slated for release in 2022.
