The Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah has welcomed over 20 million visitors during the first 20 days of the holy month of Ramadan, as worshippers flocked to the second-holiest site in Islam after undertaking Umrah in Makkah. This number represents a significant uptick in visitors, as is expected during Ramadan, with 280 million Muslims visiting the mosque throughout 2023.
In March 2024, the General Authority for Care of the Prophet’s Mosque launched a mobile app tracking congestion at the place of worship, allowing would-be visitors to plan their trip, knowing which areas are least busy.
