Samaka Studio Partners With Spacetoon to Advance Arab Animation

If you grew up in the Arab world, there’s a good chance the Spacetoon jingle still plays somewhere in your mind. Now, the network that raised a generation on “Action,” “Comedy,” and “Girls Channel” is moving into a new creative era.

At this year’s Saudi Film Confex, Spacetoon announced a strategic partnership with Samaka Studio — the Cairo-born, Abu Dhabi-based animation house known for its surreal worlds and experimental storytelling. The deal sees Spacetoon become a minority stakeholder in Samaka, but more significantly, a long-term creative collaborator.

The partnership will focus on developing original Arab IPs, expanding production capacity across the region, and, as both companies describe it, “building a current of imagination that connects cultures.”

“Animation from our region can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world,” said Mahmoud Hemeda, CEO of Samaka. “This partnership is a bigger wave — one that proves Arab animation has the power to travel, inspire, and connect.”

Samaka, whose recent projects include 'R.E.M.' and 'Kamaroza', has gained recognition for blending folklore, memory, and myth into bold, visually rich narratives. By joining forces with Spacetoon, the studio aims to scale its creative universe and elevate Arab animation onto a global stage.
