Saudi Arabia Launches Cooling Initiative Ahead of Hajj 2025
New shades, misting systems, and water stations have been installed to help protect pilgrims in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

As part of its preparations for Hajj 2025, Saudi Arabia has launched a large-scale Pilgrim Cooling Initiative to help mitigate the extreme heat expected during the annual pilgrimage. Overseen by the Kadana Development Company, the initiative covers key holy sites—Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat—aiming to improve safety and comfort for millions of pilgrims.
In Mina, 50,000 square metres of pedestrian walkways have been shaded to protect pilgrims during the journey between tents and ritual sites. Arafat has received 60,000 square metres of shade coverage and integrated misting systems to reduce ambient temperatures, particularly in crowded areas. A new cooling system has also been installed around Jabal Al-Rahma, with fans and canopies spanning 785 square metres.
At Namira Mosque—one of the most visited sites during the Day of Arafat—an advanced cooling project has been rolled out across 85,000 square metres. This includes modern ventilation systems designed to maintain comfortable temperatures even during peak sunlight hours.
To support hydration and rest, 400 modern water coolers have been installed across the three holy sites. Additionally, 28,000 square metres of shaded rest areas have been set up along key routes to provide relief from the heat.
Emergency preparedness has also been enhanced. More than 85 first aid and medical response centres have been established, and 135 pressure tank stations in Mina have been equipped to support the infrastructure required for misting and water distribution.
