Saudi Heat Wave to Surge Above 50°C in July & August
Experts warn that Riyadh and the Eastern Province will be most affected by the predicted heatwaves.
Climatologists in Saudi Arabia have warned that temperatures in the Kingdom are set to soar above 50 degrees Celsius in late July and early August. A recent heatwave has already seen a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius in the shade in the city of Dammam.
Experts warn that Riyadh and the Eastern Province will be most affected by the predicted heatwaves.
Due to the sweltering heat, a royal directive has been issued to the establishment of the Two Holy Mosques to reduce sermon times by 15 minutes, and to delay the call to prayer for the Friday minute by 10 minutes to reduce the waiting time between the first and second call to prayer for the week’s central congregational prayer.
Authorities have encouraged citizens to remain hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure through staying in the shade and employing the use of umbrellas when outside.
