Saudi Heritage Commission Codes 4,000 Architectural Heritage Sites
The process documents and classifies sites in an official national register to enhance protection and ensure sustainability through the archaeology and architectural heritage system.
Saudi Arabia has completed the coding of 4,000 architectural heritage sites, marking the final stage in their official registration, according to the Saudi Heritage Commission. The process follows earlier phases of documentation and classification within the national heritage framework.
Each site is now fitted with a plaque featuring a QR code, linking it directly to its entry in the national architectural heritage register. This creates a clear connection between the physical site and its official digital record, making locations easily identifiable and traceable.
The commission said completing the coding phase strengthens the protection and long-term preservation of these sites. By integrating QR-coded markers with the national register, the initiative aligns on-the-ground heritage locations with a unified digital system, supporting more efficient management and safeguarding of Saudi Arabia’s architectural heritage.
