The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has restored the Shrine of Amun Ra within the Temple of Seti I in Abydos, one of the most ancient cities in the country.
As part of an initiative to restore archaeological sites across Egypt, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has restored the Shrine of Amun Ra within the Temple of Seti I in Abydos, one of the most ancient cities in the country.
Located in the governorate of Sohag, the shrine was restored over a period of three months. The process included cleaning the cabin mechanically and chemically, removing layers of soot and dust, re-building the missing parts of the shrine, before finally recoloring and insulating it.
The Temple of Seti I includes seven chapels dedicated to different deities. Amongst these deities is the chief of Egyptian gods, Amun Ra. The walls of his shrine depict Seti I giving offerings to Amun Ra, as well as the journey of his sacred boat to the afterlife.
