South Korea Grants USD 9M to Boost Emergency Healthcare in Upper Egypt

Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with South Korean Ambassador Kim Yonghyon to announce a USD 9 million project, which will enhance emergency medical services in Upper Egypt, focusing on the Nag Hammady and Luxor region.

The initiative, which coincides with South Korea’s ongoing railway modernisation projects in the area, will introduce mobile clinics, upgrade emergency rooms, supply advanced equipment, and provide specialised training for emergency personnel starting in 2026.

The meeting also highlighted Egypt’s participation in the Dr. LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program, offering training in infectious disease response and health policy leadership. Additionally, a USD 10 million investment by Korea’s Choong Ang Vaccine Laboratories Co., Ltd. (CAVAC)  and Egypt’s Giza Power Industry (GPI) will establish a poultry vaccine production facility in Al-Sadat City, set to open in June.

Further collaboration includes a Korean Biomedical Business Delegation visit to Egypt in September and a reception celebrating 30 years of diplomatic ties on April 13th.
