WHO: Saudi Arabia Contributes USD 500 Million Annually To Fight Polio

Saudi Arabia contributes USD 500 million annually in the fight against polio and in mitigating its consequences, according to the World Health Organization, as highlighted during the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum

In a press statement, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah, the Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, stated that the world is very close to completely eradicating polio. He also expressed pride in Saudi Arabia’s role in this global effort. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has prioritized contributions to the health sectors of developing countries, such as Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have faced significant challenges with polio in recent years.

Saudi Arabia’s efforts in combating polio protect approximately 370 million children each year through a USD 600 million fund. In addition, the Kingdom works to improve the standard of living in 33 countries that are members of the Islamic Development Bank, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Over five years, USD 500 million was allocated to the global initiative to fight polio, producing vaccines and addressing the most affected countries worldwide.
