WeProtect Global Summit to Explore Online Child Safety in Abu Dhabi
The summit seeks to catalyze international collaboration and urgent action to address the growing child safety crisis.
The Ministry of Interior will host the WeProtect Global Summit in Abu Dhabi on December 4th and the 5th, 2024, marking the second time the country has hosted the event. Co-hosted by the WeProtect Global Alliance, the summit will bring together global leaders, tech innovators, child protection experts and survivor advocates to tackle the urgent challenge of online child exploitation and abuse.
Held under the theme ‘Focus on the Future’, the event will explore innovative solutions for safeguarding children in digital spaces. A key feature will be the launch of the ‘Evolving Technologies Horizon Scan’ report, developed in collaboration with Thorn. This report, based on insights from over 300 global experts, reviews emerging technologies and their potential risks and opportunities in combating online child exploitation.
The hybrid event - hosted in person in Abu Dhabi and online - coincides with the WeProtect Global Alliance’s 10-year milestone of impactful work in child safety. With alarming statistics revealing one child is exploited online every second, the summit seeks to catalyze international collaboration and urgent action to address this growing crisis.
Discussions will focus on forging partnerships among governments, technology providers, and advocacy groups to build safer digital environments. Participants will examine challenges posed by evolving technologies and propose strategies to strengthen global efforts in protecting children worldwide.
