Wi-Fi Calling Service to Launch in Egypt

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is set to launch Wi-Fi Calling in Egypt. The service enables users to make voice calls over Wi-Fi, providing an alternative for areas with poor mobile network coverage. Calls can transition between Wi-Fi and mobile networks (GSM) without interruptions.

Unlike other communication technologies, Wi-Fi Calling does not require additional applications, making it more accessible for users. Calls will be charged at the same rate as traditional calls under existing subscriptions, with no extra fees.

To activate the service, users need to ensure their smartphones support Wi-Fi Calling, verify availability with their telecom operator, activate the feature through their phone's settings or provider's app, and connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network. The default calling app will automatically select the best network based on coverage.

Extensive technical tests conducted by the NTRA confirmed that the service meets local standards and offers secure and reliable calls. The feature, compatible with most modern smartphones and supported by major telecom providers, is designed to enhance call stability and quality in crowded or remote areas.
