Maadi’s Grilled Sandwiches Spot Mayyal is Now Open in New Cairo

Maadi’s grilled meats spot Mayyal is now open in New Cairo’s The Wave Mall, bringing its Street 231 cult energy to the other side of the ring road. The spot still has everything that made the original a favourite: juicy kofta and hawawshi sandwiches, plus their signature pickled onion situation.
Mayyal has always sat in that sweet spot between 1980s nostalgia and street-food practicality — the kind of place that feels like it could’ve existed next to your childhood school or a late-night taxi stop. The spot was literally inspired by Amr Diab’s Mayyal playing through café speakers and street radios. Founded by chef Ali Alnatour, a Jordanian-born, Cairo-based chef with years in Egypt’s F&B scene, the concept is built on one very clear belief — good food doesn’t need to be complicated to be good.
Now at The Wave Mall in New Cairo, Mayyal keeps its Street 231 branch running too, so it’s officially a two-location situation — one for people in Maadi who already have opinions about it, and one for everyone else who’s about to.
