Khufu, directed by Mahmoud Assi, has been officially selected for the Pardi di Domani International Competition at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, where it will celebrate its world premiere.

Egyptian short film Khufu, directed by Mahmoud Assi, has been officially selected for the Pardi di Domani International Competition at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, where it will celebrate its world premiere.

The film follows an Egyptian family navigating financial hardship as they struggle to maintain their livelihood near the Giza Pyramids when their camel, their only source of income, begins to suffer from serious health issues. Khufu is an exploration of resilience and family connection, portraying how the family is tested by both emotional and economic pressure as they fight to preserve their way of life. Khufu is co-produced by Mark Lotfy and Abdallah Dnewar who's best known for the award-winning short 'My Brother, My Brother'.

The film also won the first edition of the Eish Competition, a collaboration between the United Nations World Food Programme in Egypt, El Gouna Film Festival, and Zest.
