GFF Launches ‘Safe Harbour MENA’ Initiative for Displaced Filmmakers
El Gouna Film Festival launches Safe Harbour MENA, supporting filmmakers displaced across the Middle East with training and mentorship.
El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) is launching Safe Harbour MENA, a new initiative supporting filmmakers displaced within the Middle East, as part of its ongoing Cinema for Humanity programme.
The initiative, developed in partnership with the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and the International Emerging Film Talent Fund (IEFTF), will bring four displaced filmmakers to El Gouna for training, mentorship and networking, both online and in person. Participants will also pitch their projects to industry delegates attending CineGouna.
Safe Harbour MENA is the first regional implementation of IFFR’s Safe Harbour programme, launched in 2026 to support emerging filmmakers affected by displacement or forced migration and facing limited access to professional networks, funding and development opportunities.
GFF will also host the MENA premiere of the first films supported by the Displacement Film Fund, further extending the partnership’s focus on filmmakers affected by displacement.
