Independent Film ‘Perfumed With Mint’ Lands on Aflamuna for Free

Egyptian surrealist drama ‘Perfumed With Mint’ is now streaming for free on Aflamuna, the non-profit platform dedicated to independent Arab cinema.

Directed by Emmy Award-winning cinematographer and filmmaker Muhammed Hamdy, the film follows Bahaa, a lovesick doctor, and his old friend Mahdy, who find themselves trapped in a dystopian landscape after mint leaves begin sprouting from Mahdy’s body.

The scent draws danger towards them, forcing the pair to move through a deteriorating city and take shelter in abandoned houses while being pursued by shadowy figures.

The film uses its surreal premise to explore paranoia, trauma and the collective memory of a wounded generation, unfolding through a visual language shaped by shadow, atmosphere and disorientation.

‘Perfumed With Mint’ premiered at the Venice Film Festival in the Critics’ Week section before screening at other international festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is available to stream through Aflamuna for a limited time.
