MedFest Egypt to Screen 72-Hour Film Challenge Finalists

MedFest Egypt will screen the shortlisted films from its 72-Hour Film Challenge on September 12th at Ewart Memorial Hall at the American University in Cairo’s Tahrir Square campus.

The screening forms part of the festival’s 8th edition, which runs from September 10th to 14th under the theme ‘Beyond the Scene’. Tickets for the challenge screening are sold separately and are available through Tickets Marche.

The 72-Hour Film Challenge gives participating teams exactly three days to write, shoot, edit and submit a complete short film. At the official kick-off on July 30th at The Factory by Al Ismaelia, each team drew four required elements to work into its film: a genre, a character, a prop and a line of dialogue.

Once those elements were revealed, the 72-hour clock began. The format is designed to test how filmmakers make creative decisions under pressure, while working through production, collaboration and problem-solving on a tight deadline.

Submitted films were reviewed before a selection was shortlisted for public screening. The September 12th programme will give audiences a chance to see how different teams approached the same basic challenge through different genres, styles and storytelling choices.
