‘Escape to Nature’ With R’kan Edition’s New Functional Art Collection
Inspired by nature, crafted to captivate: R’kan Edition’s latest collection blends heritage, art and function.
R’kan Edition, the functional art gallery founded by designer Rania Fahmy, introduces its latest collection, ‘Escape to Nature’. Blending modern design with timeless craftsmanship, each piece is more than just functional, it’s a statement of art, capturing the intricate beauty of the natural world and reflecting the collection’s byline, “Choose only one master… nature.”
Presented through a series of immersive installations, the collection unfolds in seven chapters, each rooted in symbols of nature. From bronze and acrylic to hand-carved wood and brass detailing, the rich, textured materials bring depth and meaning to the designs, making each piece a visual and conceptual experience.
From trees and flowers to insects, the collection draws inspiration from nature’s most intricate and unexpected wonders. The Beetles Collection, inspired by fashion designer Farah Wali, transforms beetles, hornets, and dragonflies into living canvases. The Beetle Cabinet captures the fine details of a beetle’s textured, armored body, echoing the curved lines traced along its back. Meanwhile, the Hornet Coffee Table features a meticulous interplay of materials, creating a vibrant spectrum of hues that reflect the insect’s natural brilliance. Its fluid form mirrors the delicate, translucent wings of the hornet.
The Natura Collection, however, introduces a verdant dash of colour. Inspired by the renowned artist Adel Mostafa, each piece reflects the changing hues of trees through the seasons, intertwined with a heritage-driven narrative. Adorned with leaf-shaped ornamentation, the Natura Tabla Coffee Table pays homage to the traditional Egyptian tabla drum, capturing the rhythmic harmony found in nature.
Like an arched gateway into a secret garden, the Natura Console features graceful leaves and flowing green waves that echo nature’s gentle rhythm. Its legs rise, arch, and merge at the top, like two trees reaching for one another at the threshold.
In a different corner, set against the backdrop of Adel Mostafa’s artwork, a black wooden masterpiece stands tall on beaded wooden legs. The Alex Secretary. Designed in honor of Alexandria’s enduring architectural legacy, it echoes the city's facades, where history and craftsmanship intertwine. Its front is adorned with arched openings, each framed by delicate voussoirs rendered in black and white wood inlays, evoking the rhythmic charm of Alexandria’s grand edifices. Hemmed within these miniature archways, luminous colored glass panels gleam from within, like stained-glass windows catching the Mediterranean light, whispering tales of a city steeped in art and history.
The Hexa & Lotus Collection transports you to an ancient realm, where elegant brass details, vibrant hues, and colorful acrylic inlays intertwine with lotus motifs and crisp geometry, creating a fusion of Art Deco and Neo-Pharaonic design.
In a seamless fusion of form and function, the Floral Cabinet captivates with its rich wood and a vibrant palette reminiscent of a blooming lotus. Its fine brass legs slide elegantly across the surface, creeping like roots anchoring a flower to the earth, transforming the piece from mere furniture into a living tableau of nature’s elegance.
The Splash Table, inspired by the fluid motion of water, stands boldly on a single solid brass leg, its sculpted texture echoing the raw, organic beauty of flowing currents. In contrast, its tinted glass top shimmers with a sense of weightless depth - light yet grounded, delicate yet powerful - capturing the essence of water in motion
