Studio Figurati Designs Skeleton Chair Inspired by Human Anatomy

‘The Skeleton Chair’ by Cairo-based Studio Figurati was inspired by the paleontological site of Wadi Al Hitan - the valley of the whales in Faiyum, Egypt - where some of the earliest whale fossils were mysteriously found. The layout, the story and the history fueled the design studio’s latest design experiment.

The experimental chair uses human bone formation, development and growth, taking after how humans evolved to seek comfortable chairs, unlike earlier eras when humans were seated against rocks, stones or trees. “It has the form of a modern chair in a seated human body skeleton,” founder Ahmed Wassef tells SceneHome.

Created with Tubular polished stainless steel, the skeleton chair can be used in public or semi-public space and can fit up to two people.
