Cairo's First Bike Sharing System Shifts Into Gear This July
You will be able to borrow a bike for low prices starting at EGP 1 per hour or through a prepaid transportation card, which will be implemented in Downtown Cairo, Garden City, and Zamalek.
Ever wished you could ride a bike around Cairo but you couldn’t really find a space for one in your third storey apartment? Well wish no more because starting this July, bike sharing will finally be a thing! ‘Cairo Bike’ is a new bike sharing system that will let you ride from station to station on a rented bike, serving as an alternative and more environmentally-conscious mode of transportation around the capital.
Established in partnership with UN HABITAT's support, ‘Cairo Bike’ relies on the presence of a large network of points where bikes are available for public use and are managed by a mobile application. You will be able to borrow a bike for low prices starting at EGP 1 per hour or through a prepaid transportation card, which will be implemented in Downtown Cairo, Garden City, and Zamalek.
Funded in part by contributions from the Swiss Drosos Foundation, and technically assisted and overseen by the Institute for Transport and Development Policy ITDP, this system serves as the first of its kind in Egypt, given that previous experiences were limited to closed communities and surrounding urban areas.
