10 Arrested Over Beanbag Vandalism at New Capital Fan Zone
The Ministry of Interior said the suspects confessed after a social media video showed seats damaged in a recreational area.
Ten people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism of public seating, including beanbags, at the Egyptian Fan Zone in the New Capital.
The arrests followed the circulation of a video on social media showing several individuals damaging seating designated for public use in the recreational area.
According to the Ministry of Interior, authorities reviewed the footage, identified those involved and arrested 10 suspects from Cairo, Monufia and Gharbia governorates.
The ministry said the individuals confessed to committing the acts of vandalism shown in the circulated video during questioning.
According to the ministry, the incident took place on June 22nd during celebrations following the national team's historic 3-1 victory against New Zealand, marking Egypt's first winning match at the FIFA World Cup.
