12 Killed & 309 Injured in Attack on Riyadh Airport
Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said some of the hundreds injured in Saturday’s attack remain in critical condition.
At least 12 people were killed and 309 injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, according to Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority. Some of those injured remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment in hospitals.
Those killed included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt. The attack also caused damage at the airport, where operations were temporarily suspended while authorities assessed the site.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen attributed the attack to the Houthi movement and said it would respond, describing the strike on the civilian airport as a war crime. The Houthis had not claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack at the time of reporting, but said they carried out separate strikes on King Khalid International Airport on Thursday that killed three people and damaged an aircraft.
Saturday’s attack was the deadliest in Saudi Arabia in more than a decade, amid a renewed escalation in attacks targeting the kingdom.
